Sister Elaine is using her CPI knowledge to spearhead a neighborhood plan with the Juniata Action Committee (JAC). She has also coordinated neighborhood clean-ups with local treatment centers, and helped run a neighborhood festival.
If there's one thing she learned from CPI, it was to involve as many community members as possible in the planning process! Sister Elaine met with the Holy Innocents’ “Young in Spirit” senior citizens group to learn their insights and vision for the Juniata neighborhood plan. JAC is also partnering with Juniata Town Watch to incorporate public safety strategies into their neighborhood plan.
In an effort to clean up the neighborhood, Sister Elaine coordinated volunteer efforts with residents at the Luzerne Treatment Center to eliminate litter in the neighborhood. Future cleanups will include volunteers from the MinSec treatment center.
As Vice President of JAC, Sister Elaine has also helped the organization create a better sense of community. The 3rd Annual Juniata Fest was the biggest, most successful to date!
Neighborhood planning inspired a task force to form to collect information on businesses and institutions for a Business Directory Database so it is easier for different groups in the neighborhood to collaboate.
By reaching out to participants she met at Citizens Planning Institute, Sister Elaine has built new working relationships. Her next project with JAC is to "green" the Cayuga Triangle!
