Philadelphia2035
Our city’s plan, Philadelphia2035, takes a long-range, 25-year view into the future because developing big, transformative ideas needs lots of lead time for reaching consensus, assembling resources and enacting plans. The plan provides a framework for:
- growth, preservation, development;
- the city’s competitive position;
- public investment in transportation, open space, and community services;
- access to jobs and economic development;
- housing;
- management of environmental and energy resources;
- and the physical form of the city.
The Philadelphia 2035 Plan is composed of two tiers: 1) the long-range citywide plan and 2) 18 Strategic District Plans covering all corners of Philadelphia. These plans will recommend specific actions that can be taken over a five to 10 year period to realize the future envisioned in Philadelphia2035. Key outcomes for each District Plan will be a land-use plan that will be used as the basis of zoning remapping, and recommendations for public investment that will become part of the City’s annual six-year capital program. At four plans per year, all plans will be completed by 2016.
The public outreach process of Philadelphia2035 built on the one-year civic engagement process of Imagine Philadelphia, completed in January 2010. The ideas, values and initiatives generated through this process created the framework for Philadelphia2035. The Philadelphia City Planning Commission conducted two series of public workshops, one in the spring and one in the fall of 2010. The spring series presented an opportunity for participants to generate transformative ideas citywide. The fall series provided an opportunity for citizens to prioritize the strategies under specific goals.
Philadelphia2035 is a website that will have the most up-to-date information on the district planning process.
